US and Sindh Government Join Hands for $9 Million Campaign Against Tuberculosis

KARACHI: The US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, and Sindh’s Health and Population Minister, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, have teamed up to fight tuberculosis (TB) in Pakistan.

This partnership, backed by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), introduces a program called the Tuberculosis Local Organisation Network (TB-LON). With an investment of $9 million over five years, the aim is to help Pakistan combat TB more effectively.

The TB-LON program will work closely with affected communities to tailor solutions to their needs, focusing especially on Sindh. Ambassador Blome highlighted the significance of this initiative, recognizing TB as a major health challenge in Pakistan. He emphasized the commitment to eradicating TB and improving lives in Sindh.

Dr. Pechuho thanked the US government for their support and stressed the importance of joint efforts in addressing health challenges. Despite being treatable, TB remains a significant global health threat, with Pakistan ranking fifth among countries with the highest TB rates.

USAID is leading the charge globally against TB, emphasizing community involvement for sustainable results.
