Tottenham’s Postecoglou Reflects on Fans’ Sentiments After Defeat

In the wake of Tottenham’s 2-0 loss to Manchester City, Tottenham’s manager Ange Postecoglou expressed concern over the apparent fragility of the foundations he’s laid at the club. This defeat, potentially handing Arsenal the Premier League title, left many fans disheartened.

Erling Haaland’s two goals dashed Tottenham’s hopes for Champions League football, leaving City atop the table, just two points ahead of Arsenal before the final fixtures on Sunday.

Despite dismissing suggestions that Spurs fans would want their team to lose to deny Arsenal the title, Postecoglou admitted he had misjudged the situation. The subdued atmosphere during the match, coupled with chants taunting Arsenal, prompted Postecoglou to reconsider.

“The last 48 hours have revealed to me the foundations are pretty fragile. That’s things I’ve got to go back to the drawing board on,” said Postecoglou.

Pressed further about his frustration, Postecoglou expressed indifference, stating, “(I) Don’t care. Outside, inside, everywhere.”

Reflecting on Tottenham’s late-season performances, including a thrilling draw against City earlier, Postecoglou acknowledged the impact of crowd support. However, he emphasized his focus on building a winning team, regardless of external priorities.

Tottenham still aims to secure fifth place and Europa League football, needing just a point against Sheffield United on Sunday.
