PM forms committee for implementation of Tajir Dost Scheme

In a move to address concerns hindering the effective rollout of the ‘Tajir Dost Scheme,’ Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a specialized committee. This committee includes the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the Secretary of Finance, and the Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce.

During a recent meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Naeem Mir, Chief Coordinator of the Tajir Dost Scheme-2024, discussions centered around the obstacles impeding the scheme’s smooth implementation. Naeem Mir, who chairs the Supreme Council of All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajiran, will play a pivotal role in facilitating retailers and wholesalers to ensure the scheme’s success.

The initial phase of the Tajir Dost Scheme focuses solely on registration, according to the FBR. However, representatives from the business and trade sectors highlighted the pressing issue of tax payments. They emphasized the necessity of resolving technical and legal challenges to move forward.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to taxing affluent individuals and potential taxpayers, expressed a willingness to address the concerns raised by businessmen and traders. He underscored the government’s dedication to championing the interests of traders nationwide.

To tackle tax payment issues effectively, a committee comprising the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, the Secretary of Commerce, and the Secretary of Revenue Division has been proposed.

Naeem Mir, in his role as Chief Coordinator, conveyed the concerns and suggestions of the business community to the Finance Minister, shedding light on the struggles faced by traders and businessmen in Pakistan. He commended the government’s efforts in creating a conducive business environment, streamlining tax policies, and fostering investment opportunities to spur economic growth.

Furthermore, he assured the unwavering support of the business community towards the Tajir Dost Scheme.

Muhammad Naeem Mir, appointed by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) as the Chief Coordinator of Tajir Dost Scheme-2024, is tasked with registering three million retailers and shopkeepers nationwide.

An upcoming meeting between the Chief Coordinator of the Tajir Dost Scheme and key government officials, including the Secretary of Revenue Division, the Secretary of Finance, and the Secretary of Commerce, is scheduled for the following week.

As of April 30, 2024, only 75 retailers and shopkeepers have been registered with the FBR. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has been urging the business community to register via the newly launched “Tajir Dost App,” tailored to meet the needs of the business community.
