British High Commissioner meets Nawaz Sharif

British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, had significant discussions during her recent visit to Lahore. She met with former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan to talk about matters of common interest.

During her meeting with Nawaz Sharif at Jati Umrah, they discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and uplift the social sector in both countries. Meanwhile, her discussion with Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan at the Governor House revolved around strengthening bilateral ties, addressing climate change, and other pressing issues.

Marriott commended the Pakistani government’s commitment to tackling climate change and assured full British support in this endeavor. She acknowledged Britain’s consistent support to Pakistan during challenging times like floods and earthquakes.

Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan emphasized the importance of addressing climate change, particularly its adverse impact on Pakistan’s agriculture. He urged Britain to advocate for Pakistan’s climate change concerns on international platforms.

Highlighting the significance of agriculture in Pakistan, the governor stressed the need to support farmers for sectoral development. He also underscored the importance of political stability for economic growth, urging all parties to work together for national progress.

Additionally, Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan administered the oath of office to Lt-General Muhammad Abdul Aziz (Retd) as the new Chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC). The ceremony, held at the Governor House Lahore, was attended by PPSC officials and members.
