WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform owned by Meta, has rolled out a significant update for iOS users aimed at enhancing video playback. The new version, 24.20.78, includes features that promise to improve how users interact with video content.
According to WABetaInfo, this update introduces adjustable playback speeds, allowing users to watch videos at normal speed, 1.5x, or 2.0x. The speed adjustment controls are conveniently positioned next to the video progress bar, making it easy for users to customize their viewing experience.
In addition to speed controls, the update also features a much-anticipated picture-in-picture (PiP) mode. This allows users to resize the video window and reposition it on their screen, enabling multitasking without interrupting playback. Users can browse chats, send messages, or even use other apps while enjoying their videos.
Key controls for pausing, skipping forward, and skipping backward are readily available within the floating PiP window, ensuring seamless interaction.
These features are compatible with devices running iOS 14 and later, as the necessary Application Programming Interface (API) has been available since the release of iOS 14. While some users may already have access to the new features, others will see them rolled out gradually over the coming weeks.
For those who have yet to receive the update, it’s recommended to keep WhatsApp updated through the App Store or TestFlight app to enjoy these latest enhancements.
