Legendary Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram has humorously remarked on India’s T20 World Cup squad, noting that they won’t have the excuse of being tired during the upcoming tournament.
Akram’s comments followed the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 final, which did not feature any Indian players from the World Cup squad. In an interview with Sportskeeda Cricket, Akram quipped, “At least this time, Indian players won’t say they’re tired.
They were thinking ahead, prioritizing the country over the IPL final.” He added, “It could be a blessing in disguise for India.”
Previously, Akram had expressed concerns about the Indian team’s fatigue due to their packed IPL schedule. However, with the first batch of players, including captain Rohit Sharma, departing for the USA on Saturday, Akram believes they will have sufficient time to recover.
“It’s T20, the boys will recover. Fitness levels are high nowadays,” he noted.
India’s T20 World Cup squad includes key players such as Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Virat Kohli. The team is set to face Ireland, Pakistan, the USA, and Canada in the group stages, starting from June 5 in New York.
