Three retired army officers have been taken into custody by military authorities amid ongoing court
martial proceedings against former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the detentions are part of a broader
investigation into actions deemed contrary to military discipline. The ISPR disclosed that the officers
are being investigated for their alleged involvement in activities that breached military conduct and
contributed to political instability.
The statement from ISPR noted, “Further investigation is underway against the retired officers and
their associates.” It elaborated that the detained officers and their associates are suspected of
colluding to advance political interests, potentially destabilizing the country.
The names of the detained officers have been revealed by ISPR. They include two brigadiers and a
colonel: Brigadier Ghaffar, Brigadier Naeem, and Colonel [Name]. According to ISPR, these officers
had acted as messengers, facilitating coordination between a political party and Lt Gen (retd) Faiz
Hameed. Both brigadiers reportedly hail from Chakwal and were described as being particularly
close to Hameed, referred to as his ‘favourites’.
These officers are alleged to have engaged in political messaging and facilitation following their
retirement, further complicating the ongoing investigation. The ISPR emphasized that additional
investigations are in progress to fully determine the extent of their involvement and that of their
associates.
The ongoing court martial proceedings against Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed were initiated following
the Supreme Court’s orders. The Pakistan Army has embarked on a detailed court of inquiry to
assess the validity of complaints against Hameed in connection with the Top City Case. “Appropriate
disciplinary action has been initiated against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd), under the provisions of the
Pakistan Army Act,” the ISPR confirmed.
The Pakistan Army has also identified multiple instances of violations of the Pakistan Army Act by
Hameed following his retirement. The Field General Court Martial (FGCM) process has been set in
motion, and Lt Gen Faiz Hameed remains under military custody as proceedings continue.
