Severe Fog Causes Major Flight Disruptions in Pakistan

Severe fog has significantly disrupted flight operations across Pakistan, leading to numerous cancellations, delays, and diversions. Airport authorities report that 11 flights were canceled, three were diverted to alternate airports, and 53 domestic and international flights experienced substantial delays.

Flight Cancellations:

  • Karachi-Faisalabad routes: PK340 and PK341.
  • Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights between Lahore and Quetta: PK322 and PK323.

Flight Diversions:

  • Saudi Airlines flight SV738 from Jeddah to Lahore was rerouted to Islamabad due to low visibility.

Flight Delays:

  • Six flights between Karachi and Islamabad.
  • Five flights from Karachi to Lahore.
  • Nineteen flights at Lahore Airport.

Passengers are advised to check updated schedules before heading to the airport to avoid inconvenience. Airlines and airport authorities are actively managing the disruptions while prioritizing passenger safety.

This situation mirrors previous instances where dense fog has caused widespread flight disruptions in Pakistan. For example, in January 2024, heavy fog led to the cancellation of 30 flights at Islamabad Airport, affecting both domestic and international routes.

Similarly, in December 2023, dense fog at Lahore Airport resulted in multiple flight delays and cancellations, impacting various airlines and routes.

Such weather conditions not only disrupt air travel but also pose challenges for road and rail transportation, emphasizing the need for travelers to stay informed about current conditions and plan accordingly.
