Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan has stated that the arrest of former ISI Chief Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed is an internal matter of the army, asserting that PTI has no connection with the developments surrounding his court martial.
During a meeting with his legal team at Adiala Jail, where Khan is currently detained, the PTI founder clarified his stance on the recent military actions against General Faiz.
According to his lawyer, Intizar Panjotha Khan, the party has never been involved with the former general, distancing PTI from any implications related to his arrest.
“General Faiz’s arrest is strictly an internal issue of the military, and PTI has no role in it,” Khan reportedly told his legal team. He further asserted that there was no political relationship between him and General Faiz, dismissing any speculations about a connection between the two.
The former Prime Minister also reiterated his long-standing grievances against former Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, accusing him of sidelining General Faiz in favour of a deal with former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. “It was General Bajwa who replaced General Faiz as part of a broader agreement with Nawaz Sharif,” Khan claimed.
During the meeting, Khan also expressed concern over the country’s current political and judicial climate. He urged his supporters to peacefully mobilize for what he described as a “fight for freedom,” calling on the people to come out of their homes for the sake of the nation’s future.
Khan’s lawyer further revealed that the PTI leader criticized the growing pressure on the Supreme Court and warned of the fading hopes among the youth. Drawing a bleak comparison, Khan remarked that the situation in Pakistan was now worse than in Bangladesh before its independence.
Regarding the ongoing court martial proceedings against General Faiz, Khan suggested that if his arrest is linked to the events of May 9, a judicial commission should be formed to investigate the matter thoroughly.
He called for the release of relevant CCTV footage to ensure transparency in the inquiry.
