Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed Adiala Jail authorities to ensure that Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), receives all facilities mandated by the jail manual. The order followed a Thursday hearing presided over by Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, who reviewed a petition filed by Imran Khan’s sister, Noreen Niazi, alleging that certain basic facilities had been withdrawn.
During the hearing, the deputy superintendent of Adiala Jail reported that, in line with jail rules, all necessary facilities have been provided to the PTI leader, including family and lawyer visits. However, the petitioner’s counsel raised concerns over restrictions on visitations, citing security issues.
The IHC also sought clarification on Imran Khan’s access to newspapers, a right under jail regulations. Justice Tahir advised jail officials against creating unnecessary barriers and ordered that newspapers be supplied to Imran Khan.
Additionally, the matter of phone contact with Imran Khan’s sons was discussed, as his lawyer highlighted a lack of communication. Jail officials clarified that while the manual restricts WhatsApp calls, the court urged the facilitation of communication through alternative means.
