LONDON: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool’s defender, firmly believes the team had a successful season despite a lackluster end to Jurgen Klopp’s final campaign at Anfield.
Liverpool started strong, winning the English League Cup in February. At that point, they were aiming for an unprecedented quadruple.
However, setbacks followed. They lost to Manchester United in the FA Cup, exited the Europa League, and their Premier League title hopes diminished during two tough weeks in April.
Although Klopp missed out on a dream farewell, Alexander-Arnold sees the third-place Premier League finish and a return to the Champions League as signs of progress.
“It was a good season,” Alexander-Arnold told Liverpool’s website. “We built on last season, improved as a team, and challenged for the title.”
He added, “Improvement means it’s a good season. We need to take the positives, move forward, and aim to do it again next season.”
The 25-year-old, hoping to join England’s Euro 2024 squad, faced personal challenges. He spent two months out with a knee injury.
“Being injured is never nice. You want to play and help the team, but injuries happen,” he said.
He continued, “It was a tough period, but it taught me patience. It made me stronger and appreciate the times I’m fit and playing.”
