Qatar Airways has set a new benchmark for in-flight connectivity by introducing the world’s first Boeing 777 equipped with SpaceX’s Starlink internet service. On October 22, 2024, passengers on a Doha-to-London flight experienced ultra-fast internet speeds at 35,000 feet, revolutionizing air travel.
This move positions Qatar Airways as the leading carrier in the MENA region to adopt Starlink’s high-speed, low-latency satellite internet across its fleet. Passengers can now access download speeds up to 350Mbps, supporting video calls, streaming, and gaming seamlessly during flights.
“This milestone underscores our commitment to redefining the in-flight experience,” said Qatar Airways Group CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer. The airline plans to install Starlink on 12 Boeing 777-300s by the end of 2024, with full fleet integration, including Airbus A350s, expected by 2025.
Unlike previous paid Wi-Fi options, Starlink is complimentary for all passengers, offering seamless connectivity from gate to gate. During the inaugural flight, Al-Meer made a live video call to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, showcasing the service’s reliability and future potential.
