Nawaz Sharif criticises high electricity bills, calls for public relief

Pakistan Muslim League (N) President Nawaz Sharif, expressed deep concern over the rising
electricity bills, stating that the current costs are unbearable for the general public.

His remarks came during a high-level consultative meeting of the PML-N leadership held at the party
secretariat in Model Town on Tuesday.

The meeting, which was presided over by Nawaz Sharif, was attended by key party figures, including
Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. The primary focus of the discussion was on providing
immediate relief to the public, particularly in the context of soaring electricity bills, which have
become a significant burden for many households across the country.

During the meeting, Nawaz Sharif underscored the gravity of the situation, attributing the rise in
inflation and energy costs to the mismanagement of the previous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)
government.

He emphasised that while the people are bearing the brunt of these challenges, they are looking
towards the PML-N for solutions and relief.

“This is a test of our capabilities,” Nawaz Sharif remarked, “to see how we can offer relief to the
public even in these difficult times. Just as we saved the country from default, we must now save the
people from financial collapse. This is a crucial test for us, and the PML-N has always found a way
out of challenges.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif provided an update on the government’s national economic agenda,
highlighting that a comprehensive plan has been formulated to address the country’s pressing
economic issues.

He mentioned that as part of this plan, a temporary relief has been provided to electricity
consumers, covering 200 units for both protected and non-protected categories over the next three
months.
