Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Atta Tarar, announced the launch of a new visa policy for Pakistan.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, the minister revealed that the visa fee has been abolished for 126 countries, and the visa application process has been considerably simplified.
The announcement, made on the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day, marks a major step in the government’s efforts to open the country’s doors to the world. The new policy will come into effect today at 12:00 PM.
Simplified visa process
The federal minister highlighted that under the new policy, the visa application process has been streamlined to make it easier for tourists and business travellers.
“The visa for Pakistan will now be valid for 90 days, and applicants from 126 countries can obtain it by filling out a simple form with just 30 questions,” said Tarar. The visa will be issued immediately upon completion of the form.
He emphasized that the government is keen to promote Pakistan as a top tourist destination. “Our country is beautiful, blessed with every natural bounty. We want tourists from abroad to experience Pakistan’s beauty,” he said. Tarar also mentioned that residents of Gulf countries will be able to obtain visas immediately upon arrival, using only their passports.
Security measures for tourists
Addressing concerns about security, the minister assured that the safety of tourists is the government’s top priority. He stated that security agencies will be notified of the arrival of tourists, and the Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with provincial governments, is working on robust security arrangements.
“The tourism sector in Gilgit-Baltistan has seen significant development, and we are encouraging the provision of quality and affordable accommodation for tourists,” added Tarar.
During the press conference, Atta Tarar also spoke about the pride of the nation, Arshad Nadeem, who recently won a gold medal in the Paris Olympics. He announced that members of the federal cabinet would welcome the athlete at Noor Khan Air Base upon his return.
“Arshad Nadeem’s achievement is greater than our 1992 World Cup victory,” said Tarar, expressing the government’s congratulations on his historic victory. The minister noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had met with Nadeem before his departure for Paris and assured that he would receive a grand welcome upon his return.
Prime Minister Sharif reportedly said that Arshad Nadeem’s success has amplified the joy of Independence Day celebrations. Tarar added that the government has always supported athletes, both before and after their victories, and will continue to take steps to promote sports development in the country.
