Imran Khan – the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former Prime Minister – has predicted the imminent collapse of the current government, stating it will be overthrown within two months.
Khan made these comments during an informal conversation with journalists on the sidelines of a court hearing at Adiala Jail.
Khan, who faces charges in a £190 million case involving himself and his wife, Bushra Bibi, addressed recent media reports suggesting he had sought an apology. He clarified that he had not requested an unconditional apology, emphasizing his stance that making a mistake would warrant such an action.
“I have consistently argued for the release of CCTV footage, asserting that hiding evidence constitutes a crime. If any footage shows my associates involved, I will apologize,” Khan stated.
He denied any intention of making a deal, insisting that such actions are reserved for those who have committed crimes. He reiterated that he has no remaining resources or property and will continue to contest the charges against him.
Khan criticized the government for allegedly using legal cases as a means to weaken PTI. He dismissed claims that PTI supporters were involved in violent incidents on May 9, asserting that no PTI members were responsible for the damage inflicted that day. He also rejected comparisons to past political figures who faced similar adversities, emphasizing that PTI’s right to peaceful protest was being unfairly vilified.
The former Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to fight all cases and criticized the Chief Election Commissioner as a “fraud,” accusing him of manipulating election processes. Khan also expressed skepticism about the potential for fair elections under the current administration, pledging that PTI would not recognize elections conducted under the existing setup.
