KARACHI: Former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi recently shared his insights on the forthcoming T20 World Cup, set to be hosted by the United States and West Indies, during an appearance on Samaa TV’s “Zor Ka Jor” programme.

Optimism for the World Cup

Afridi expressed a positive outlook for the Pakistani team, stating, “Hope is what drives the world. The World Cup being held in the West Indies and America will suit our players due to the conditions there.” He believes that the playing conditions in these regions will be advantageous for the Pakistani players, highlighting their skills and adaptability.

Reflecting on Past Experiences

Drawing from past experiences, Afridi recalled, “Sohail was also part of the T20 World Cup 2007 squad. We did not have a good start in the beginning of the World Cup.” This reflection underscores the unpredictable nature of the tournament and the importance of resilience and perseverance.

Changes in Team Management

Afridi also pointed out the changes in team management over the years, noting, “Previously, there was no 14-member team management.” He emphasized the evolving structure and support systems within the team, which could contribute to better performance and cohesion.

Importance of Leadership and Responsibility

Stressing the significance of leadership, Afridi remarked on the captain’s crucial role in maintaining team unity. He also called for senior players to take on more responsibility, which is vital for guiding and inspiring the younger members of the squad.
