Islamabad: Pakistani television anchor Mona Khan was arrested in Greece while hiking, sparking concerns among her colleagues and fans back home.
According to her coach, Yusuf, Mona Khan was detained by police after she pulled out a Pakistani flag during a hike. In an alleged conversation, Mona Khan claimed she was mistreated by the Greek police, who gathered all hikers together and asked if she would wave the Pakistani flag. When she replied “yes”, she was detained.
Mona Khan had traveled to Greece with her son, leaving him in Athens while she went hiking. Her mobile phone was also seized by the police.
The Pakistani Embassy in Greece has requested consular access to Mona Khan and is investigating the reasons behind her arrest, according to Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch.
Yusuf, Mona Khan’s coach, has appealed to the government to take immediate steps to secure her release. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and treatment of Pakistani citizens abroad.
Mona Khan’s detention has sparked outrage and solidarity among Pakistani journalists and citizens, who are demanding her immediate release and safe return home.
